Current Drumming Program


All drumming classes / Percussion classes are weekley and take place at the Wrangthorne Church hall Hyde Park or THE LOUNGE in Leeds University Student Union

Classes cover Traditional Rhythms, Songs and Dances. Technique's Timekeeping, General Musicianship. Group and Solo Playing. To create a good Foundation and Feel for Afro Root Styles. 

History and origins of the rhythms are explained.

We adopt a very open and friendly approach to teaching so don't be shy, come down and have a go.

Come play in our Hyde Park SAMBA BAND, this is the honeydrum big band. we are expierienced players with our own ideas. a chance to get creative. come down and rock the house. Get Me

 Surdos,  Snare Drum,  Ago Go Bells,  Tamborim's

Repenique, Ganza, Shekere, Congas, Djembe, Timbales

Grooves

Batucada, Samba Reggae, Baion, Funk, 6/8, Afro Bloc, Glub Grooves and Beats + loads more,

 We practice

 1) Technique (to get the best sounds from the drums)

 2) Timekeeping (understand rhythm and time)

 3) Grooves (rhythms for different instruments)

 4) Group Playing (how different parts fit together)

 5) Breaks and Calls (how to use signals in samba)

 6) Songs ( beautiful songs to compliment grooves)
 7) Solos (a chance to let rip and get going if you are ready)

 Instruments: Congas, Timbales,  Bongos,  Hand Percussion.

  This class covers Rhythms and Songs

 We practice

 2) Timekeeping (understand rhythm and time)

 3) Grooves (rhythms for difrent drums)

 4) Group Playing (how drum rhythms fit together)

 5) Breaks and Calls (how to use signals in rhythms)

 6) Communication (using phrases to talk between drums)

 7) Songs (beautiful songs to compliment grooves)

 8) Development of Solo Ideas

DJEMBE DRUMMING for
AFRICAN Rhythms and Songs
With  Djembe  and  Djun Djun Rhythms and Songs from West Africa
7.00pm Regular Players, this group is up and running, if you have the beats come and join the fun.

 We practice

 1) Technique (to get the best sounds from the drums)
 2) Timekeeping (understand rhythm and time)
 3) Grooves (Traditional and Modern rhythms and beats)
 4) Group Playing (how different parts fit together)
 5) Breaks and Calls (how to use signals in African drumming)
 6) Songs (beautiful songs to compliment grooves)
 7) Solos, soloing is a big part of this group led by Abu Levi, Training Master Drummer.
